Where to visit

Rhondda Cynon Taf has a fascinating variety of places to explore. The nature reserves and country parks are a perfect place to relax.

The Brecon Beacons National Park, one of the main tourist attractions throughout Wales, reaches into the northern part of the area. Museums give a brilliant insight into the history of the valleys and you will find many more attractions attesting the heritage of the area.

Places to consider during your visit include:

Dan Yr Ogof Caves
One of the largest showcave systems in Northern Europe is open from Easter to October and has stalagmites and stalactites to wow young and old alike. There is also a dinosaur park and iron age village, together with a petting zoo. Tel: 01639 730293.
Hay-on-Wye
The world renowned "second hand book capital of the world" is just 40 minutes from us and is a fascinating place to find weird and wonderful books on any subject at amazing prices.
Brecon Mountain Railway
One of the most popular steam railways in Wales, with spectacular views of the mountains. Tel: 01685 722988

Cardiff and St Fagans, The Museum of Welsh Life
Cardiff has all the shopping and entertainment that one would expect from the capital of Wales together with the awe inspiring Cardiff Bay development. Close by is St Fagans with its 40 authentic, historical buildings from throughout Wales. These have been rebuilt stone by stone so that one can see how people have lived from Celtic times. Tel: 029 2057 3500
Blaenavon
This former mining and iron town has recently been given "World Heritage Status" along with attractions such as the Taj Mahal, Pyramids and Hadrian's Wall. The 18th century iron works and the ironmasters' houses and chapels are still here to explore, but best of all is the Big Pit. This is a real colliery where you will be transported to a depth of 90 metres within a pit cage, and then guided through the labyrinth of mine shafts by ex-miners. Unmissable. Tel: 01495 790311
Llancaiach Fawr Manor
This is a 350 year old manor house operating as it did back then. Guides in costume show visitors what life was like in 1645 while falconry exhibitions are held each day and civil war recreations are regularly enacted. Tel: 01443 412248
